SUMMARY:Green Mountain Clay Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Our Green Mountain Clay Retreat will feature three demonstrations including pit firing\, a visit to Mudtools and nightly activities\, all surrounded by the beauty of the Western North Carolina Mountains. The Retreat begins at 4pm on Wednesday\, August 5th where you will settle into your accommodations\, meet fellow attendees and have dinner and a Sunset Happy Hour. Thursday through Saturday will be filled to the brim with instruction\, creation and exploration. We’ll conclude at 11am on Sunday\, August 9th where you’ll depart with new knowledge and new art pieces in hand. She will show you how to carve a rubber stamp and a clay stamp\, sgraffito and hand building. Working this way makes me feel human in a way I find beautiful. I embrace the constraint of localism\, using the limits of these materials to deepen my understanding of ceramics and the pottery traditions of this place. I see materials not as passive substances\, but as collaborators: the clay’s color and texture shape the marks that emerge\, evidence of the making process\, and flame and ash from long wood firings leave their own fire marked surfaces on the pots.  People have made pots here for a long time\, and I am now one of them. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n\n\nDonna Griffin\nArt has always been in Donna’s soul. She has been a pianist for over 50 years and holds a BA in piano. Inspired by her father\, a nuclear tool designer before turning to art in his retirement\, she took a ceramics class at her community recreation center in Connecticut in 2016\, and immediately fell in love with the material and processes. When she moved to Burnsville\, North Carolina in 2019\, her plan was to start a studio with the moniker of “Mud Puppy Pottery.” However the pandemic put these plans on hold. At the beginning of the pandemic\, she read “During this time of quarantine and isolation\, learn something new!” So she did! While on her clay hiatus\, she began drawing and painting which directly impacted her future clay process. You can see these creations at her studio/gallery. Donna continues to build and expand her work. You will find her in the studio making something new and fun.

SUMMARY:Art in the Woods: Event Template
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Triple R Oasis for Art in the Woods\, a three day art & craft retreat. Art in the Woods allows you to “choose your own adventure”;  whether painting\, drawing\, scrapbooking\, creating pottery\, jewelry making\, reading\, writing or sewing\, bring the art or craft you love to do. There will be classes available and an onsite store with limited art supplies if you are just getting started or want to learn something new. Nestled in the Western North Carolina mountains\, Triple R Oasis affords you the opportunity to commune with nature\, see the fall colors and to enjoy both crisp mornings and a sky full of stars. \nThe retreat begins Thursday at 3:00pm and ends Sunday at 11am. Registration fee is $125 per day and includes lodging\, meals\, small gifts\, a class taught by professional art instructors\, your own space for creating during the weekend\, and use of non-consumable tools. \nWe want our events to be accessible for everyone and we can offer reduced rates based on special circumstances. Additionally\, you’ll receive a discount for you and a friend when you refer them to the event. Contact us for more information. \nWe plan to have 2 meals per day – brunch between 11am-noon and dinner at 6pm. Around that there will be plenty of snackable food and continental breakfast items available. Drinks will also be available. Please let us know if you have any special diet restrictions so we can see if we can accommodate. \nThis long weekend includes beautiful views\, arts & crafts\, games\, and connection! The Toe River is less than a mile from the Retreat Center and there is plenty of hiking opportunities available on our 30 acres or in surrounding parks. We are within a short drive to Asheville\, Grandfather Mountain\, Boone\, Blowing Rock\, and Mount Mitchell\, the highest peak on the East Coast.
